At K9 Konnections the motto is “play the game, shape the brain”. Games-Based training uses the power of games to re-shape your dog’s brain, grow their skills and turn existing struggles into strengths. Dogs will become more of what they practice every day.
At K9Konnections we recognise that calm, confident, and optimistic dogs will make great choices. As the owner of a dog, we want to help you to realise your dog-owning dream and by playing short, 2–3 minute games daily to shape a particular skill will enable your dog to make these great choices wherever they are.
This type of training is fun for you and your dog and helps to build formidable relationships. By training FOR the situation rather than IN the situation provides a safer, kinder environment for your dog and gets you real life results.
Some of the concepts we might train and why your dog may need it are as follows:
Getting your dog motivated (arousal up) then calming down (arousal down). A dog requires the ability to see an event and give an appropriate reaction to that event.
Calm is king! It is one of the biggest gifts you can give a dog. A calm dog will be a well-behaved dog. When dogs experience an emotion, they pick a behaviour to do. A calm dog will only choose an appropriate behaviour.
The understanding of when presented with something new or slightly different, it is a good thing. Dogs are presented with novel signals constantly. If we grow optimism we solve reactivity struggles, visitor struggle, noise struggles etc. All the optimism games give your dog positive outcomes.
A hugely valuable concept where your dog can see value in coming away from something. If your dog currently thinks everything is their business, this concept is vital.
This is all about engagement with you. It is all about your dog choosing you!
The result of disengagement and engagement.
Confidence is your dog going through the world like a superhero! If you have a dog reactive to the world or worried about the world confidence is an amazing concept.
Your dog seeing value in being close to you. A life changer when out and about. Promotes value being close to you aiding recall.
My journey as a dog trainer came about after trying numerous trainers and training methods with my dogs which resulted in some good results but far from my dog owning dream.
